WHAT IS PRP ?

PRP is an abbreviation for (Platelet Rich Plasma) which is the blood plasma that is enriched with platelets. PRP injections have been used in the field of sports injuries and for hair growth restoration along with face/skin rejuvenation for many years. Many celebrities such as Kim Kardashian & super model Bar Refaeli have used this treatment for facial and skin rejuvenation.

Put simply when we take a sample of your blood, we place the blood in a centrifuge machine that begins to spin to separate the blood components red and white blood cells from the Platelets & Plasma. The Plasma is the fluid part of your blood which carries nutrients throughout your body.

The Platelet is the blood cells which repair damaged and injured parts throughout the body.

By separating the PRP from your red and white blood cells we essentially are able to take the pure form of your bloods best of the best nutrients and healing properties and inject it into the area we want to promote healing to. If your body knew that the hair follicles on the top of your head are injured then it would be sending the blood to the injured hair follicle as it would when another area of your body is injured, but because it doesn’t recognize the injury due to the slow nature of the injury we need to do it manually.

FOR HAIR TREATMENT

It is a natural way of stimulating dormant hair follicles encouraging them to start growing again by enriching them with the nutrients they require. The role of PRP in hair restoration is to stimulate inactive or newly implanted hair follicles into an active growth phase, this treatment should be repeated during the re growth for a full head of hair enriching and thickening your existing hair follicles on the top of your head, this should also be done following a hair transplant. (The number of treatments will vary per case) PRP treatments will work side by side with hair transplants as PRP stimulates the hair follicles stabilising further hair loss and nourishing the existing hair.

Depending on the individuals case, often further hair transplant may not be required after 12 months of PRP treatments as the existing hair that had the treatment would have responded well by strengthening and thickening the strands. In the case that hair transplant is required the patient will require PRP after the hair transplant is concluded to prevent future hair loss to the existing hair follicles and to nourish them.
When the patient receives a hair transplant at the end of the surgery the clinic conducts a PRP treatment also, so as stated earlier PRP and hair transplant go hand in hand.

HOW IS A PRP TREATMENT PERFORMED?

Our Doctor or Nurse will collect a small sample of your blood as you would normally conduct when you have your routine blood test at your doctor’s surgery. The blood is collected and placed in a special container. The container is then placed in a machine called a centrifuge where your blood is spun for approximately 15 minutes so it can separate your blood components.

This is when we apply a numbing agent to your scalp for hair treatment or to your face or body for skin treatments. We commence stimulating the area initially with a small hand held derma pen or derma roller that consists of many micro fine small needles that we use.

This procedure makes micro wounds in the scalp or face/skin that tricks the body by thinking that there is an injury in that location, so the PRP that will be injected directly in that area will begin to do its job immediately. The Platelet Rich Plasma has now been separated from your normal whole blood.

The PRP that contains abundant growth factors and stem cells is now ready to be injected to the scalp, face or body. We use the PRP which normally appears like a gold yellow clear fluid as per picture on the left-side of the page. The PRP is applied by a micro needle usually with a meso injection gun as per picture below, the process is virtually painless. Immediately after the treatment the highly concentrated PRP that was injected in many different areas of the scalp for hair treatment and face or skin begins to work to bring vital nutrients to that area , kick starting the existing cells to do their job.
