Between 80% and 90% of all women suffer from cellulite, which causes unattractive dimples in the skin around the buttocks and thighs.
It is caused by changes in subcutaneous fat and the way in which the fat reacts with the skin.
This is what causes the well-known and much-hated "cottage cheese" and "orange peel" appearance of the skin. The main reasons you may suffer from cellulitis are changes in the small arteries and veins that run through the skin and fat in your thighs and buttocks, changes in oestrogen levels and, possibly, changes in your genes and hormones (although the jury is still out on this). These processes will damage your fat cells and cause scarring (fibrosis of the adipose tissue).

In our clinic, we use platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and microneedling, combined with PDO threads, to effectively treat cellulite. We are passionate advocates of the use of platelet-rich plasma in beauty enhancing medicine; PRP takes your own platelets and uses them to give you a concentrated dose of growth factors. These assist cell growth and regeneration and help new blood vessels to develop. When employed by our experts, PRP offers enormous aesthetic enhancement opportunities.
Captions going clockwise from top left:
1: Fat is broken down by the PDO threads, reducing areas of fat in the region (lipophilic effect)
2: The skin becomes tighter, due to new collagen production encouraged by the PDO threads
3: New collagen growth is encouraged by multiple level microneedling; the septae are also disrupted
4: Tight septa pull at the skin and increase the dimpling effect; PDO threads break these up and encourage new collagen production which supports the surface fat layer
5: Growth factors increase under the influence of Platelet Rich Plasma, which leads to enhanced blood supply in the area
6: Collagen production increases under the influence of Platelet Rich Plasma, and this makes the skin tighter and gives it better tone
Nonsurgical facelifts have been revolutionised through the use of PDO threads. It has been demonstrated that the insertion of BDO threads under the skin will, over a period of about 12 weeks, activate fibroblasts and myofibroblasts and encourage fresh collagen production. This makes the skin both tighter and better looking. When we look at the skin under the microscope, we can see that PDO threads reduce the fat levels under the skin (lipolytic effect). When introduced to cellulite, they reduce excess superficial fat and make the skin smoother.
PDO threads, used in combination with PRP and microneedling, reduce the amount of fat underlying the cellulite, increase collagen, and make the skin of the affected area tighter. We are experts in the use of these three techniques in combination, and we know from experience that inserting PDO threads in areas of cellulite, combined with PRP and microneedling, with a follow-up of three more sessions combining PRP and microneedling over 12 weeks will dramatically improve the appearance of areas of cellulite. Fat will be reduced, and the surface skin will be tighter, smoother and better looking.
